(The improvement of sperm motility in Nubian goat after PGF2α administration in andromed semen diluents) ABSTRACT. The study aims to determine the administration effect of PGF2α in a commercial semen diluents (Andromed) on improvement of Nubian goat sperm motility. This study used semen samples that collected from three Nubian goats aged 2-3 using artificial vagina and their quality evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. After evaluated, semen samples were added with Andromed diluents then divided into three groups (P1, P2, and P3) where each group was then added with 0,9% physiologic NaCl, 37.5 µg PGF2α, and 75 µg PGF2α, respectively and stored in a refrigerator for 4 hours and subsequently spermatozoa motility was examined. The data obtained were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan test. The results showed that the spermatozoa motility (%) of Nubian goats at P1, P2, and P3 were 26.33±5.5, 62.0±3.5, and 61.8±10.13, respectively. Based on the statistical tests showed that the administration of PGF2α at P2 and P3 had a significant effect (P0,05) on the motility of spermatozoa of Nubian goats, but the motility decreased in P1. The conclusion of this study is the addition of PGF2α to Andromed diluents can increase the motility of spermatozoa of Nubian goats.
A meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of supplementary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids ( PUFA ) sources in the diet on the formation of some important n-3 PUFA contents in eggs and to assess factors contributing to the conversion efficiency of omega-3 in laying hens. A dataset was constructed from 34 studies examining the impact of dietary inclusion with ingredients rich in n-3 PUFA on fatty acids profile and production performance of laying hens. The eligibility criteria were developed to obtain studies reporting required information with sufficient quality. The mixed model methodology was employed where the “study” was set as random effects and fatty acid ( FA ) supplements as fixed effects. Several factors were included in the models as covariates. Discrete analysis for sources of FA was also performed to compare their effects on FA formation in eggs. Significant linear positive associations were observed between the concentration of α-linolenic acid ( ALA ), total n-3 PUFA, and the ratio of linoleic acid ( LA ) to ALA (LA/ALA) in diets with the formation of eicosapentaenoic acid ( EPA ), docosahexaenoic acid ( DHA ), total n-3 PUFA, and n6/n3 ratio in egg ( P < 0.05) with different magnitudes. ALA and total n-3 PUFAs concentration had no relationship with cholesterol concentration, feed intake, and egg weight. Prediction models for DHA formation was higher for ALA as predictor variables (slope = 0.482; R 2 = 0.684) than n-3 PUFAs (slopes = 0.998, R 2 = 0.628). Significant interactions were found on the level of ALA × FA sources and n-3 PUFA × FA sources. Fish oil ( P = 0.0148, R 2 = 0.732) improved the prediction equation to estimate DHA formation. To conclude, levels of ALA, n-3 PUFA, and the ratio of LA/ALA can be used as predictor variables to estimate the formation of n-3 fatty acids in eggs. It was confirmed that although all n-3 FA sources had a positive correlation on DHA and n-3 PUFA deposition, however, fish oil showed the highest prediction model for DHA formation across all FA sources included in the dataset.
Disimpulkan bahwa bakteri yang paling banyak menginfeksi uterus sapi RB adalah E. coli dan Pseudomonas sp. (Isolation and identification of gram negative bacteria in uterine Aceh cow with repeat breeding) ABSTRACT. The study determined the type of Gram negative bacteria of the Aceh cattle uterus which has been diagnosed with repeat breeding. The study was conducted on six Aceh cows consists of 3 normal fertile cows (K1) and 3 repeat breeding cows (K2, RB). The bacteria in uterine samples were collected using sterile swab, kept into nutrient broth (NB) for further isolation and identification of bacteria. The result of the study showed that the total of 16 isolates of bacteria was observed in all cows : 6 isolates from group K1 and 10 isolates from group K2. A total of 10 isolates from cattle with repeat breeding consist of Escherichia coli (E. coli) (30.00%), Pseudomonas sp (30.00%), Enterobacter sp (20.0%), and Klebsiella sp (20.0%). It can be concluded that the most bacteria that infect uterine cows with repeat breeding are E. coli and Pseudomonas sp.
Abstract. Hafizuddin, Karja NWK, Praharani L, Setiadi MA. 2021. Breed and age effects on concentration of adiponectin and reproductive performance in Anglo Nubian, Etawah grade and its crossbred bucks. Biodiversitas 22: 1112-1119. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of differences in breed and age on reproductive performance and adiponectin and testosterone production in Anglo Nubian, Etawah grade, and crossbred (Anpera) bucks. A total of 12 bucks with four individuals of each breed were used. This study collected five data points from each buck regarding adiponectin, testosterone, and reproductive performance (libido and semen characteristics). Data were analyzed with factorial analysis of variance and Duncan's test. The result shows that adiponectin concentration between breeds was significantly different (P <0.01). There were also significant differences (P<0.05) in adiponectin concentrations based on buck age. There were also significant interactions with adiponectin concentrations (P <0.01). Furthermore, testosterone concentrations showed significant differences based on breed (P <0.05) and age (P <0.05). There were also significant age-breed interactions affecting testosterone concentrations (P <0.01). Libido and semen characteristics had no significant differences based on breed and age group, and no significant age-breed interactions (P> 0.05). The heterosis effect on adiponectin concentration (48.05%), testosterone concentration (27.68%), libido (-0.61%), semen volume (-1.93%), sperm motility (0.49%), sperm normal morphology (0.18%), and sperm concentration (0.00%) was measured. In conclusion, there is a significant effect of breed, age, and age-breed interactions on the concentration of adiponectin and testosterone in bucks, and both of these variables have a high heterosis effect on crossbred bucks.
