Dalam keterbatasan pertemuan tatap muka selama pandemi, sekolah ditantang untuk mampu beradaptasi dengan cepat, termasuk membangun infrastruktur pembelajaran jarak jauh (PJJ) yang efektif dan efisien. Untuk ini, diperlukan sumber daya yang mumpuni yang tidak dimiliki oleh banyak sekolah di Indonesia. Proses pembelajaran selama pandemi adalah satu aspek yang menjadi perhatian para penyelenggara pendidikan di seluruh dunia dan diasumsikan berkaitan erat dengan kesenjangan pendidikan. Sayangnya, topik ini masih relatif sedikit diteliti di Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memberikan gambaran awal mengenai persepsi siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) tentang kesenjangan pendidikan selama pandemi. Sebanyak 1,121 siswa SMP berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Mereka merupakan siswa di sekolah yang berkategori favorit atau tidak favorit. Unit sampling adalah sekolah dan seluruh siswa di sekolah tersebut diajak untuk berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini. Siswa menjawab beberapa pertanyaan terkait penyelenggaraan pendidikan selama pandemi secara daring, seperti proses pembelajaran, kualitas pendidik, kualitas infrastruktur sekolah, dan kualitas pendidikan secara keseluruhan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji t-test untuk dua kelompok sampel, uji deskriptif, dan perbandingan jumlah respons siswa dari sekolah favorit dan tidak favorit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dari sekolah dengan latar belakang berbeda memiliki perbedaan persepsi yang signifikan secara statistik pada aspek fasilitas sekolah, mengindikasikan kesenjangan pendidikan dirasakan oleh siswa terutama karena kendala fasilitas sekolah. Akan tetapi, siswa dari sekolah berlatar belakang berbeda memiliki persamaan persepsi dalam beberapa aspek lainnya, termasuk bahwa PJJ memiliki konsekuensi yang cenderung negatif terhadap pemahaman mereka tentang pembelajaran, yang mendukung adanya learning loss selama pandemi.
