The company DRC (pipe repair Department) located within the SONATRACH Company of oil and gas in Algeria, which is responsible for the repair of pipelines for the transport of gas or crude petroleum, will rehabilitate old pipes that have operated on-line for approximately 30 years or come from remaining projects. On the assumption that rehabilitating a pipeline means making it workable under the same conditions as a new structure and reducing the overall cost of the project. The abandonment of these tubes will have an important environmental and financial impact. The rehabilitation, which consists of recovering the maximum of tube, already used, therefore reduces the cost of the project. Inspection and evaluation of corrosion defects are carried out in accordance with ASME/31G method that is applied to low alloyed carbon steels with corrosion defects having soft profiles with low stress concentration. Our research will consist in developing a method using a behavior-damage coupling of the material to highlight the weaknesses of the ASME / B31G method [1] and show for defects whose depth does not exceed 10%, these defects can survive hydrostatic testing but will develop during service when the pressure is variable.
Resistance spot welding (RSW) is a widely used joining process for fabricating sheet metal assemblies in automobile industry .In comparison with other welding processes the RSW is faster and easier for automation. This process involves electrical, thermal and mechanical interactions. Resistance spot welding primarily takes place by localized melting spot at the interface of the sheets followed by its quick solidification under sequential control of pressure watercooled electrode and flow of required electric current for certain duration. In this work the tensile tests were studied, the results obtained show that the type material, the overlap length, the angle of the rolling direction and the thickness of the sheet have an influence in resistance spot welding process.
The good management of drinking water begins with a supply network, with a low rate of leakage. Currently, the pipes used in the water transport system are mainly made of polymeric materials, such as HDPE. The corrosion degradation of this type of pipe has received a lot of attention from the drinking water supply companies. It is therefore important to understand the effect of pressure on an HDPE pipe with a surface defect. To answer this problem, we will first study the mechanical behavior at failure of HDPE pipes in the presence of a surface defect using a finite element method. For the rehabilitation of pipe in presence of surface defect, we try to use a new composite. This new laminated composite is reinforced with a natural organic load. It is obtained from a laminated composite woven by incorporating a natural non-polluting organic load (granulates of date cores) which becomes hybrid composite. The new economical hybrid composite material is made of an organic matrix containing methyl methacrylate, a woven reinforcement including a reinforcing glass fiber and a fabric perlon having an absorbing role. The textile reinforcement made up of several folds reinforcing laid out according to the orientations (90, 452, and 0). A numerical simulation with the ANSYS Workbench software is carry out to study the behavior of the HDPE pipe with surface defect and with defect repaired by the new hybrid composite material in the form of rings to consolidate the cracked area of the tube. The numerical results will allow us to decide on a real practical use of the new hybrid composite.
Resistance spot welding is a comparatively clean and efficient welding process that is widely used in sheet metal joining. This process involves electrical, thermal and mechanical interactions. Resistance spot welding primarily takes place by localized melting at the interface of the sheets followed by its quick solidification under sequential control of water cooled electrode pressure and flow of required electric current for certain duration. In this experimental work the tensile tests and the spot weld diameter were studied. The objectives of this analysis is to understand the physics of the process and to show the influence of the electrical current, weld time and the type material in resistance spot welding process.
