A new species of Rubiaceae, Psydrax gialaiensis B.H.Quang, T.B.Tran & V.S.Dang, sp. nov., is described and illustrated from the Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, Gia Lai Province, southern Vietnam. This species is characterized by having strigose branches and leaves, a conspicuously bulging, short corolla tube, an accrescent nectary disc and a style with a dense tuft of hairs, which clearly distinguishes it from the other species in the genus. A description, vernacular name, conservation assessment, illustration, photographs, and a key to the species of Psydrax in Vietnam are provided.
The new species Dregea taynguyenensis from Vietnam is described, illustrated and compared with the other Dregea species occurring in Vietnam and neighbouring countries D. cuneifolia, D. sinensis, D. volubilis and D. yunnanensis. Dregea taynguyenensis differs from these species by the leaf blade secondary veins number, calyx lobes shape, and corolla lobes size.
In this research, we study on molecular characteristics of ITS-rDNA region of Mahonia bealei. The gotten result showed that, the ITS with 700 bp in length contained 24.1% Timin, 28.4% Guamin, 23.4% Adenin and 24.1% Cistezin. The average genetic difference between Mahonia genus and Berberis genus is 2,3% while with other genera is from 17% to 22%. The gotten result also demonstrated this ITS region can be useful and suitable for identification and study phylogenetic of Berberidaceae. Specific primer to amplify the ITS genome in the length of 300 bp of Mahonia bealei species aslo have been developed and synthesized. This ITS-300 genome sequence of Mahonia bealei was registered on the Gene Bank with accession number as MT 008067.
A new species, Lasianthus konchurangensis V.S.Dang, T.B.Tran & T.D.Ha (sect. Lasianthus), is described and illustrated from Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve, Gia Lai Province, the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Lasianthus konchurangensis resembles L. foetidissimus but differs in having larger leaves, more secondary veins, larger calyx and purple corolla. Photographs, vernacular name, preliminary conservation assessment, and a table comparing L. konchurangensis with L. foetidissimus are provided.
