I m Zusammenhang mit Untersuchungen uber die physikalischen Eigenschaften der cyclischen Kohlenwasseratoffe sahen wir uns vor die Aufgabe gestellt, eine grossere Blenge reiiies Cyclo-nonanon herzustellen. Da die bckannten allgemeinen Methoden zur Herstellung vielgliedriger Ringe bei den Verbindungen mit 9 Kohlenstoffatomen sehr schlechte Ausbeuteii liefern, haben wir eine neue Synthese des Cyclo-nonanons ausgearbeitet, die es erlaubt, in einfachen Operationen grossere Mengen dieses Ketons in reinster Form zu erhalten. Als erste hatten wohl Ruxickn untl Brugger2) annahernd reines Cyclo-nonanon in Handen. Sie stellten es nach zwei verschiedenen Methoden her. Einmal durch trockene Destillation des sebaeinsauren Thoriums und das andere Ma1 aus Cyclo-octyl-methylamin durch Ringerweiterung nach Demjamow mit salpetriger Saure und Oxydation des entstandenen Cyclo-nonanols zum Keton. Auf beiden Wegen gelangten sie xu identischen Produkten, deren Semicarbazone bei 178-179O schmolzen. Das daraus regenerierte analysenreine Keton erstarrte bei O o und liess sieh mit Chromsaure in guter Ausbeute xu Azelainsaure oxydieren, wodurch seine Konstitution festgelegt wurde. Spater erhielten ZiegZer und Aurnhammer3) durch Cyclisierung des Sebacinsaure-dinitrils in einer Ausbeute Ton etwas mehr als ein Prozent ein reineres Cyclo-nonanon-Praparat, das den Smp. 28O besass. I n neuerer Zeit haben Kohbr und Mitarbeiter 4, Cyelo-nonanon BUS Cyclo-octanon durch Ringerweiterung mit Diazomethan hergestellt. Sie erhielten ein Cyclo-nonanon-semicarbazon vom Smp. 183--185O, und daraus ein Keton, das bei 31-31,5O schmolz. Bei dieser Darstellungsmethode bleibt ein grosser Teil des Cyclo-octanons unverandert. Ausserdem reagiert das gebildete Cyclo-nonanon teilweise weiter mit Diazomethan und ergibt Cyclo-decanon, sodass ein Gemisch von vie1 Cyclo-octanon, mit Cyclo-nonanon, wenig Cyelodecanon und vielleicht noch hoheren Homologen entsteht.
