Atombindungen halten die A t o m zusammen, wobei sich hoch-oder niederrnolekulare Ringe, ebene Netze oder Raumnetzwerke bilden konnen. Da die Festigkeit der Bindungen mit steigendem Atomvolumen abnimmt, sind Umwandlungsvorgange urn so leichter moglich, je hoher das Atomvolumen ist. Solche leicht eintretenden Phasenurnwandlungen sind gerade fur die Halbmetalle charakteristisch, und wir verstehen damit das Auftreten so vieler H. Krcbs, diese Ztschr. 6 4 , 613 [1952]. Modifikationen bei den Halbmetallen. Die Erkenntnisse, die man durch die Rontgenanalyse und durch das Studium der Chemie der hochpolymeren organischen Verbindungen gewonnen hat, gaben nun den Schlussel zur Losung des alten Problems der Allotropie der Halbmetalle.
