Seit Erscheinen des letzten ATM-Fortschrittsberichtes [1] zum Thema "Optische Spektralanalyse" im Jahre 1966 sind besonders auf dem Gebiet der Zusatzgeräte für Spektrographen einige Neuentwicklungen zu verzeichnen, über die im folgenden berichtet werden soll. Es handelt sich um: 1. den Laser-Mikrospektralanalysator [2-49], 2. die Glimmlampe [50-67] und 3. die Hohlkathodenlampe [68-78], Durch die Entwicklung des Laser-Mikrospektralanalysators kann die Emissionsspektralanalyse heute mit zu den Mikroanalysenmethoden gezählt werden, die eine Lokalanalyse an der Oberfläche eines Materials erlauben. Durch den Einsatz der Hohlkathodenlampe und vorzugsweise der Glimmlampe wird der Konzentrationsbereich bei der Bestimmung der Elemente in der Optischen Spektralanalyse erweitert und aufgrund einer besseren Reproduzierbarkeit die Genauigkeit quantitativer Analysen erhöht. 1. Der Laser-Mikrospektralanalysator [2-49] Bei der Laser-Mikrospektralanalyse wird, wie bereits der Name anzeigt, Laserstrahlung für analytische Zwecke eingesetzt. Auf die zu untersuchende Stelle einer Probenoberfläche gerichtet, verdampft ein Laserlichtimpuls einer Energie von 0,1 -1 Ws unter nur geringfügiger Zerstörung der Probe einige hundertstel Milligramm bis einige Milligramm Material unter Bildung eines Mikroplasmas. Dieses Mikroplasma wird in einer unmittelbar über der Probenoberfläche befindlichen Funkenstrecke zur Anregung gebracht. Die dabei emittierte, elementspezifische Strahlung wird dem Spektrographen zugeleitet und damit der herkömmlichen spektrographischen Auswertung zugänglich gemacht. Der Laser-Mikrospektralanalysator [22] besteht aus dem Mikroskopteil mit Funkenstrecke und einer Spiegellinsen-bzw. Planachromat-Optik kurzer Brennweite, in deren Fokus das Analysenmaterial gebracht wird, sowie dem Resonatorkopf. In diesem befindet sich der zur Erzeugung der Laserstrahlen notwendige Festkörperlaser in Kombination mit einer der Energiezufuhr dienenden Blitzlampe. Das Analysengerät wird von einem elektronischen Versorgungsschrank gespeist. Als Festkörperlaser werden Rubine und Nd-dotierte Glasstäbe verwendet. Sie liefern eine ungesteuerte Laserstrahlung, die zwar für die Durchführung qualitativer und halbquantitativer [40, 41] Analysen, nicht jedoch für quantitative Untersuchungen und auch nicht für die Analyse transparenter Materialien geeignet ist. Durch Gütesteuerung von Rubin-Laserstrahlung [34, 35], ζ. B. mit Hilfe rotierender Reflektoren oder sättigbarer Absorber, kann eine Strahlung erhalten werden, die eine gleichmäßigere Materialverdampfung begünstigt und somit die quantitative Laser-Mikrospektralanalyse [42 -49] ermöglicht. Die Laser-Mikrospektralanalyse findet Anwendung auf den Arbeitsgebieten der Mineralogie, Petrographie, Geologie, Kristallchemie [37], Silikatchemie [36], Metallographie, Archäologie und Kriminalistik [38].
