THIS review provides an integrated bibliography and digest of all aspects of alcoholism and drug addiction, including a section on tobacco. It is the third review to appear in the JOURNAL, and covers the world literature on addiction published from the middle of 1949 t o the end of 1950. Well over a hundred articles on Antabuse have appeared during this period, and we have attempted to provide a comprehensive bibliography of this drug.To facilitate orientation and reference, this review is headed by a synopsis, and the titles have been numbered consecutively from 1 to 883. By means of these numbers, numerous cross-references in the text lead from one title or section to another. Reference to the previous reviews (Brit. J. Addict., 1948, 45, 125-176 and 1949, 46, 106-154) is also made, e.g. see 46, 111 (the second figure here stands not for the number of the title, but for the page containing the title). For the sake of completeness, the titles of articles published in the JOURNAL during the period under review have been included. The titles of articles from foreign journals are translated into English. Comment by the reviewer is enclosed between square brackets.A number of abstracts have been reproduced, mostly condensed, from the Quarterly Journal of Studies on Alcohol [QJA] ; the Journal of the American Medical Association [ J A M A ] ; Excerpta Medica, Section Neurology and Psychiatry [Exc. Med.] ; the Abstracts of World Medicine [AWM] ; Chemical Abstracts [Chew. Abs.] ; the Digest of Neurology and Psychiatry [Dig. New. Psych.] : and the World Research in Alcoholism [ W R A ] , which ceased publication in 1949. Grateful thanks are extended to the Editors of these Journals.Dr. W. R. Bett has again supplied a large number of titles, and it is a pleasure to acknowledge his kind collaboration. 4 n he British J o u x n a l of Addiction SYNOPSIS PART I-ALCOHOL PAGE
