Während auf Grund von Autopsien in früheren Jahren die Fettleber als häufigste Leberkomplikation der Colitis ulcerosa galt, ist seit Einführung und Verbreitung der Leberbiopsie wiederholt eine akute, subakute und chronische Pericholangitis beschrieben worden, die in frühen Stadien der Colitis ulcerosa offenbar an erster Stelle der möglichen Leberkomplikationen steht. So fand Mistilis (4) unter 441 Kranken mit Colitis ulcerosa 28mal eine Pericholangitis (6°/o). Diese Häufigkeitsangabe wurde mehrfach bestätigt (1, 2,8). Erst in den Endstadien und im Autopsiematerial steht dagegen als wichtigster Leberbefund die Fettleber als Folge der Inanition, der Anämie und des enteralen Eiweißverlustes in einem Drittel der Fälle im Vordergrund.
