SummaryThe magnetism of Al,O,-Cr,O, mixed oxides, annealed at 800°C in air, indicates the presence of Cr oxides with higher-valent chromium. The susceptibility of Cr3+ is strongly increased on magnetical dilution by A1,0,. From the WEISS constants conclusions are drawn about the magnetic interactions and thus the distribution of the chromium ions. Magnetochemical estimations of the Cr oxidation state are compared with the results of chemical analyses (BUNSEN method).1:3 %. :i:iiirg. :iIlg. C'heniie. The mixed oxide system Cr2O3MnOx (2 ≥ x ≥ 1.5) was investigated by X‐ray diffraction, by measurements of magnetic susceptibility, and by chemical determination of excess oxygen (BUNSEN'S method). The Presence of the antiferromagnetic oxides Cr2O3, β‐MnO2, α‐Mn2O3 and a ferromagnetic phase Cr1−yMnyO2 was stated. The formation of the latter with fourvalent chromium is explained by a lattice induction effect of the MnO2 (rutile type).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
