Einleitung und Fragestellung.Die Frage, inwieweit bei der Poliomyelitis und bei poliomyelitis-~thnlichen Viruserkrankungen prim~r-virusbedingte Muskelsch~digungen ffir unterschiedliche klinische Symptome und anatomische Ver~nderungen der Skelettmuskulatur (Spasmen, Myalgien, Atrophien u. a.m.) in Er-w~gung gezogen werden kSn~ten, ist in den vergangenen Jahren wiederholt erhoben worden. Wit haben in dem I. Tell der vorliegenden Mitteilung auf diesbeztigliche Beobachtungen und experimentelle Untersuchungsergebnisse im einzelnen hingewiesen. Besonders sind experimentelle Untersuchungen yon Aronson und Shwartzman hervorzuheben, die fiir die MSglichkeit eines direkt-virusbedingten Muskelschadens sprechen. Diese Autoren wiesen beim Goldhamster eine betr~chtliche Pathogeniti~tssteigerung des MEF1-Stammes der Lansing-Poliomyelitisviren bei vorausgehender Verabreichung yon Cortison nach; bei den in solcher Weise infizierten Versuchstieren konnten betrKchtliehe Skelett-muskelver~tnderungen mit Verlust der Faserinnenstruktur und Hyalini-* Die Untersuchtmgen wurden dutch das Badische Komitee zur Erforschung und Bek~mpfung der spinalen Kinderl~hmtmg untersttitzt.
