The combined effects of water-hammer and speed of sound in gas-liquid mixtures are used to measure the mass flow rate. Through continuity the mass flow rate at the wellhead is the same as the mass flow rate downhole and at standard conditions, making the Pressure-Pulse method suitable for routine production testing and allocation measurements. The method is highly repeatable. Offshore testing of the waterhammer effect and the speed of sound in gas-liquid mixtures, demonstrates the feasibility of the Pressure-Pulse method in petroleum production operations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
