Japanese and Taiwanese teachers' knowledge, beliefs and attitudes regarding schizophrenia were similar to those found in the general public in Western societies. Although the present study is limited in sampling and the components of the mental health literacy investigated, several working hypotheses have been extracted from it to be tested in future investigations on the Japanese and Taiwanese and other Asian general public's mental health literacy.

One of the major factors in road-induced noise in a vehicle is the vibration characteristics of its tires. The effects of tire cavity resonance are clarified in this paper by a mathematical approach to the excitation and by road tests. Peaks of road noise due to cavity resonance in automobile tires exist at frequencies between 230 and 300 Hz. The major peak is at the first mode of cavity resonance in the circumferential direction and is not affected by the cross-sectional shape of the tire. The noise is affected by only the first mode of cavity resonance. Therefore, by using countermeasures to this resonance, the road noise can be reduced.

Hbs tree t-High density magnetic recording is investigated for a combination of single-layered perpendicular media and ring-type heads. Medium magnetic properties (Hc and Mr/Ms) are improved by introducing a dual underlayer structure. Readwrite experiments show that the linear recording resolution (D5J increases drastically with decreasing the magnetic spacing. D,, values of 190 -220 kFCI are observed using a flying MR head at an estimated magnetic spacing of 40 nm. Using contact recording, even higher resolution of D50*=300 kFCI is confirmed. Side-writing and side-erasing can be reduced below 0.2 pn by employing a narrow gap write head with trimmed sharp track edge, which shows a possibility of track density greater than 25 kTPI. The recording areal density, thus, can he increased to 10 Gbhn' level with the present recording system.

PRML channels for perpendicular magnetic recording with a ring head and a single layer magnetic media are investigated. The general expression of these PRML channels with dipulse-shaped signals is defined, and one PRML channel suitable for high-speed processing with a compact circuit is found. Simulations confirm that these PRML channels have better performance than for longitudinal magnetic recording.

The magnetization configurations within the pole tip of the single-pole-type head have been examined through a micromagnetic computer simulation based on the Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation. The aspect ratio, including the effect of the exchange length (Lex), was defined as the ratio of the throat height (Th) to the write-track width (Tww) and the thickness (Tp), which is given (Th×Lex)/(Tww×Tp). It was found that the magnetization configuration and the perpendicular component of remanent head field (Hr) are strongly dominated by this aspect ratio at any value of Tww. It was also found that there is a characteristic aspect ratio at which Hr starts to decrease. These results show that decreasing the aspect ratio is an effective way to reduce the intensity of the remanent head field.

The list developed in this study is expected to be effective for anticipating occupational health needs after disasters.
