The effect of alloxan and adrenaline on blood glucose was investigated in 84 rats. The diabetogenic action of alloxan, 200 mg/kg, was prevented by mixing it for 10 min with adrenaline, 50 μg/kg, before injection. No histological changes in the islets were observed after the injection of this mixture. Similar doses of adrenaline and alloxan, injected intramuscularly at the same time but separately produced a diabetogenic action greater than that produced by alloxan alone.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
