Zusantmenfassung: Die Keimabtotung bei der Abwasserchlorung wird nicht durch eine spezifische Giftwirkung des Chlors sondern mit der Anderung des Redoxpotentials begriindet. Fur einen ausreichenden Desinfektionseffekt von Chlor auf das untersuchte Abwasser war eine rascheihderung des Redoxpotentials um etwa 400 mV erforderlich, was einer Chlordosis von etwa 25 mg/l iiber den aktuellen Chlorbedarf von ca 15 mg/l hinaus entsprach. Gleichzeitig verminderte sich der Biochemische Sauerstoffbedarf urn ca 80% auf Werte unter 10 mg/l. Ein durchgreifencler Eliminationseffekt an Keimen ist von der kunstlich-biologischen Abwasserreinigung kaum zu erwarten, da es bei den immer mehr intensivierten und hochbelasteten Verfahren nicht zur Ausbildung von Bioconosen kommt, die auch bakterienfressende Protisten uinfassen. Die Methode der Wahl ist ganz ohne Frage die Abwasserchlorung als zusatzliche technologische Stufe. Die Chlorung ist die okonomisch und technologisch gunstigste Methode zur Desinfektion von Wasser und Abwasser. Der Einsatz anderer Halogene kann vor allem in der Abwasserreinigung okononiisch nicht niit der Chlorung konkurrieren.Die bei Einleitung von gasformigem Chlor in Wasser gebildete unterchlorige Saure dissoziiert so, daB iiber 970/0 des Chlors als unterchlorige Saure vorliegt bei pH 6, uber 750,G bei p H 7, nur 23% bei pH 8 und weniger als 3% bei pH 9 (Abb. 1). Wird statt gasformigem Chlor Hypochloritlauge verwendet, erfolgt die Dissoziation gemiiB (1) NaOCl + Na+ + OC1-( K = 3,3 * 10-8).Abb. I.
