k und H. S c h w a b e Irn 16. Jahrhundert wird Heinrich IV. von Frankreich ein aus Crataegus zubereiteter ,,syrupus senilorum" von seinem Leibarzt Quercetanus verordnet (Sc h el e n z , 1904). Aber erst seit der 2. Hälfte des vorigen Jahrhunderts findet Crataegus als Heilpflanze zur Stärkung des Altersherzen und bei Herzkrankheiten überhaupt stärkere Beachtung. Heute sind Crataegusauszüge recht häufig in herzwirksarnen Arzneimitteln zu finden. Der groi3e Nachteil bei der Verwendung von Crataegus als Heilpflanze ist, daß sein wirksames Prinzip bisher noch nicht gefunden werden konnte. Seine Inhalts-stoffe sind Triterpensäuren (S c h i n d l e r , 1951; N e u U. H a g e d o r n , 1956), die nach der Z i rn m e r m a n n-Regel (P a e C h , 1950) regelmägig gekoppelt mit wasserlöslichen Anthocyanen vorkommen. Die letzteren gehören in die große Familie der Polyphenole, die die Oxidationsstufen der Flavonoide von den Catechinen bis zu den Flavonolen umfaBt. In Crataegus sind davon folgende Substanzen gefunden worden: Proanthocyanidine ( F r e u d e n b e r g U. W e i n g e s , 1960; W e i ng e s , 1961) und weiterhin die Crataegus-Flavone Vitexin-rhamnosid mit Vitexinacetylrhamnosid ( F i e d l e r , 1955 a; F i s e l ,1965), Hyperosid mit Rutin und Quercetin-rhamnogalactosid (F i e d l e r , 1955 b; F i s e I , 1966). Diese Flavonoide werden von den Phenolsäuren Kaffee-und Chlorogensäure begleitet.Beide Gruppen, sowohl die Triterpene als auch die Flavonoide, wurden zeitweise jeweils als die herzwirksamen Crataegus-Prinzipien angesehen (U1 1 s p erg e r , 1952; H a h n etcoll., 1960; L a n g U. W e y l a n d , 1955; P e t e r , 1966),doch auch die in dieser Pflanze enthaltenen Choline und Purinkörper sind herzaktiv und sollten nicht unbeachtet bleiben. Bisher aber ließ sich bei Crataegus wie auch bei manch einer anderen Pflanze die tierexperimentelle Erfahrung machen, daß nur der Gesamtextrakt eine eindeutige Wirkung zeigt, während gleichstarke Lösungen von Mischungen der bekannten Reinsubstanzen keine oder nur eine sehr viel geringere Wirkungsweise ergaben ( T e r a s , 1966; P e t e r , F i s e l U.
