Mr. PHILIP DAWSON had read the Paper with great interest, but Mr. Dawson. considered it unfortunate that the Author should have based his calculations on such data as a schedule speed of 16 miles per hour, station-intervals of 1 mile, and a train-weight of 100 tons, since these were not representative of the usual conditions which obtained in the case of suburban-railway electrification in Great Britain. Although the methods of calculation might be sufliciently flexible to enable variations in the fundamental data to be substituted, the particular results set forth in the Tables and curves might, i n Nr. Dawson's opinion, be misleading to anyone looking at the final financial results without taking consideration of the technical conditions. I n order to illustrate this point, he had worked out two examples based generally on the Author's data, but with schedule speeds of 20 miles per hour and train-weights of 200 tons
