Nach einer Ubersicht uber die Vielzahl der sowohl vom Metall als auch vom angreifenden Medium abhangenden Faktoren, welche die anodische Metallauflosug beeinflussen konnen, wird die Natur der Passiv-Schichten auf Grund elektrochemischer und optischer Untersuchungen behandelt. Die fur die Passivierung charakteristische steile Abnahme der anodischen Stromdichte bei wachsender Galvanispannung wird schon durch eine monomolekulare, den Durchtritt der Metallionen durch die Phasengrenze hemmenden Schicht hervorgerufen. Das Wachstum dieser Schicht wird majgeblich durch Transportvorgange vor allem in ihr selbst beeinfkrjt. Die Kinetik der Passivierungs-und Aktivierungsvorgange la& sich durch p~tentialabhang~ge, Jconkurrierende S~mu~tanreaJ~fionen deuten, wobei die Austawchadsorption im Passiv-Verhalten eines Metalls gegeniiber verschiedenen Sauren eine Rolle zu spielen scheint.
EinleitungDie Hemmung der anodischen Auflosung der Metalle wird seit Faraday auf eine schutzende Oxidschicht zuruckgefiihrt. Die Unterschiede im Verhalten der verschiedenen Metalle lassen sich zum Teil durch die Struktureigenschaflen ihrer Oxide, z. B. ihrer Gitterparameter, im Verhaltnis zu denen des Metalls erklaren (1). Wenn zunachst deckschichtenfreie Metalloberflachen vorliegen, z. B. in stark sauren Losungen, kann der Mechanismus der Bildung der Passivschichten untersucht werden. Fur die Eisenmetalle, speziell Nickel, konnte gezeigt werden ( 2 ) , dai3 eine porose Salzschicht, die zu einer starken Erhohung der effektiven Stromdichte fuhrt, keine notwendige Voraussetzung fur die Passivierung ist. Die Passivitat des Eisens lai3t sich in alkalischen Losungen bei anodischer Polarisation selbst dann aufrechterhalten, wenn man die Oxidbedeckung laufend durch Schleifen unter der Losung entfernt (3). Eine direkte Umwandlung der Metalloberflache in eine den Metallionendurchtritt hemmende Oxidschicht mui3 daher bei den Eisenmetallen angenommen werden. Unter geeigneten Bedingungen kann aber auch eine Salzschicht, die durch direkte Reaktion der Metalloberflache mit dem Anion entsteht, eine starke Hemmung der anodischen Auflosung bewirken (4). Der fur den anodischen Passivierungsvorgang charakteristische negative Stromdichte-Potential-Koeffizientwird auch in diesem Fall erhalten. Nach dem steilen Stromdichteabfall wird die Passivschicht mit wachsendem Potential verstiirkt, die Stromstarke bleibt sehr klein und steigt nur wenig an, bis ein neuer Vorgang oder ein Durchbruch durch die Passivschicht zu einer Erhohung der Stromstarke fuhrt. Wir wollen die Prozesse diskutieren, die primar zur Passivierung, d. h. zum Abfall der anodischen Stromdichte fuhren. Sie sind relativ wenig behandelt worden, spielen aber sicher fur das Verhalten im passiven Zustand auch eine Rolle. Fleischmann und Thirsk (5) haben das Wachstum dunner Passivierungsschichten auf flussigen Metallen bzw. Amalgamen untersucht und kommen dabei vom Standpunkt der Keimbildungs-und Wachstumskinetik aus zu Beziehungen fur die Stromstarke als Funktion der Zeit bei ;:+) Prof. Dr.-Ing. hubil. Ein Überblick über die elektrochemischen Analysenmethoden zeigt die funktionellen Beziehungen zwischen Meßgröße und Konzentration auf. Die Möglichkeiten, die Methoden zur kontinuierlichen Betriebskontrolle zu verwenden, werden erörtert. Nachdem die Grundlagen der Amperometrie und amperometrischen Titrationsverfahren an einigen Beispielen erläutert wurden, werden die Voraussetzungen für die kontinuierliche amperometrische Bestimmung von gelösten Stoffen und von Gasen besprochen und einige Beispiele, wie z. B. die Bestimmung von N2O3, ClO2, COCl2, die sich im praktischen Betrieb bewährt haben, beschrieben.
