Bulletin de statistiques et d'études N° 02-04 Octobre 2002 1 Le sport chez les jeunes de 12 à 17 ans Les deux tiers des jeunes de 12 à 17 ans pratiquent un sport en dehors des cours d'éducation physique et sportive, la moitié adhère à un club sportif, et de l'ordre du tiers détient une licence sportive. Trois jeunes sur dix participent à des compétitions. Les adolescents qui font du sport ont également d'autres activités culturelles. Les jeunes sont plutôt influencés dans le choix de leur activité sportive par leurs copains. Près de la moitié d'entre eux a déjà abandonné au moins une discipline, souvent pour en essayer une autre. Les disciplines les plus fréquemment citées comme étant abandonnées sont le judo et les autres arts martiaux, la gymnastique et la danse. Les filles, moins sportives que les garçons, notamment après 15 ans, ne pratiquent pas tout à fait les mêmes disciplines. Elles sont relativement moins nombreuses à être en club et à détenir une licence. Elles invoquent plus souvent que les garçons les problèmes matériels pour justifier leur abandon d'une activité sportive.
