Este artigo se propõe a realizar uma análise sobre as objetivações apresentadas na Meta 6 do novo Plano Nacional de Educação (PNE) (2014-2024). Esta ambiciosa Meta estipula que, até o fim de vigência do Plano, 50% das escolas públicas brasileiras ou 25% dos estudantes estejam matriculados tempo integral na escola. Para realizar estas reflexões, nos debruçamos sobre a temática da ampliação da jornada diária escolar. Dentre as possíveis conclusões alcançadas, entendemos que a educação oferecida em tempo integral não corresponde a apenas ampliar o tempo de permanência dos educandos na escola ou sob responsabilidade dela. Significa também realizar um salto qualitativo na oferta educacional. Além disso, a pretensão esboçada na Meta 6 necessita também romper com históricas marcas da política brasileira pós-redemocratização, como a não consolidação de regime de colaboração.
