A presença protestante em diversos setores da sociedade brasileira é bastante ampla e tem gerado muitos debates acadêmicos nos últimos anos. Para avançar na discussão envolvendo protestantismo e política, esse trabalho irá analisar um setor ainda pouco estudado do movimento evangélico: o neocalvinismo e suas conexões com a direita no Brasil. Com um perfil protestante tradicional, grupos neo-calvinistas, como L’abri Brasil e a Igreja Esperança, através da figura dos seus líderes, tem se tornado importantes produtores de discursos e saberes, destinados a evangélicos, sobre temas como política, gênero, economia, ciência e cultura. Trata-se de grupos que possuem um perfil mais intelectualizado e que atraem parcelas da classe média evangélica que estão em busca de conteúdos mais especializados. Assim como ocorreu nos EUA, os conteúdos conservadores veiculados por tais grupos neocalvinistas reforçam o discurso e a agenda da direita conservadora. Mesmo sendo um grupo minoritário dentro do espectro evangélico, dada a importância dessa religião na configuração atual da sociedade, acredita-se que todo o esforço que vise aprofundar sua compreensão contribui para o debate científico.
Resumo: A inserção dos evangélicos na sociedade é um tema bastante debatido na sociologia da religião do Brasil. Devido à pouca homogeneidade que o caracteriza, é possível identificar no movimento evangélico coletivos que, na contramão do que se poderia esperar de seus adeptos, comumente associados ao conservadorismo, defendem os direitos humanos, a justiça social, a cidadania e a democracia. Neste trabalho, iremos apresentar alguns desses grupos para analisar seus discursos e práticas. Serão apresentados os discursos das lideranças de grupos paraeclesiásticos evangélicos recolhidos através de trabalho de campo realizado entre 2016 e 2018. Lançar luz sobre essa vertente do protestantismo pode contribuir para uma maior compreensão das dinâmicas do campo religioso brasileiro em geral e dos evangélicos em particular.
Este artigo conta a história de como um corpo de conhecimento que sequer se pretende "científico", a Teologia do Novo Testamento, conseguiu estabelecer uma agenda de investigação comum de uma forma que dificilmente pode ser vista (se é que o pode!) no pensamento sociológico. Usualmente se diz que o conhecimento sociológico tende a se fragmentar em razão de não poder contar com um núcleo duro de generalizações empíricas e de concepções aceitas de forma consensual. Pois na Teologia do Novo Testamento falta tanto uma coisa quanto a outra e, não obstante, essa disciplina não se fragmenta em "escolas de pensamento" ou "paradigmas" que mal tomam conhecimento da existência uns dos outros, como ocorre na teoria sociológica, nas abordagens sociológicas sobre a modernidade, na sociologia do conhecimento e em muitas outras áreas do conhecimento sociológico.
