El objetivo principal de la presente investigación es analizar las propiedades psicométricas y la validez discriminativa del MoCA en adultos mayores en la población ecuatoriana. La metodología fue de tipo mixto, de corte transversal, descriptivo, correlacional y no experimental, la muestra estudiada comprendió doscientos hombres y mujeres de sesenta años en adelante y se divido en dos grupos (demencia y normales) de los centros geriátricos de la ciudad de Cuenca: Centro de atención al adulto mayor y El Hogar de los Abuelos, se utilizaron como instrumentos de recolección: El MoCa-S, MMSE Test de Folstein, Test del informador, Test de depresión de Yesavage, que sirve como prueba de contraste para determinar la validez discriminativa del MoCa-S. Los resultados fueron procesados en el software estadístico R. En los resultados se evidenció la fiabilidad y validez de la evaluación cognitiva de Montreal en adultos mayores.
Una las patologías más frecuentes en nuestro país Ecuador, como en todo el mundo, es la diabetes miellitus, que pertenece al grupo de las Enfermedades Crónicas no Transmisibles tales como hipertensión Arterial (HTA), enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC), cardiovasculares, artritis, artrosis, cáncer, dislipidemias, obesidad, entre otras, las cuales en conjunto están consideradas como un problema de salud pública, las mismas pertenecen a estadísticas importantes que determina que cada año aumentan en número las personas que las adquieren y cada vez la media de edad de presentación va disminuyendo. Alrededor de los 56 millones de defunciones ocurridas en el 2012, 38 millones son ocasionadas por enfermedades no transmisibles, de estos 28 millones ocurrieron en países de bajos recursos. Las causas más frecuentes son por: EPOC, cáncer, patologías cardiovasculares, diabetes, las mismas que se podrían evitar si se trabaja conjuntamente con prevención y promoción de la salud.
