This study aims to investigate the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) on rat kidney cortex histology. Oral exposure of rats to 2,4-D for 28 days resulted in decreases in body weight gain and kidney weight. Histological examination showed degeneration in renal corpuscles and podocytes; vacuolization in the glomerulus with disintegration of the basal membrane; tissue edema; vacuolization, cystic dilation and invagination of the basal laminae in the tubular structures; dilation and congestion in renal corpuscular vessels and marked decrease in glomerular and stromal fibronectin reaction; suggesting that subacute 2,4-D administration induces dose-dependent histopathological degenerative effects in rat kidney cortex.
This study, dealing with the taxonomic features of Nereididae species, was conducted at 7 stations located in øzmir Bay and its adjacent areas. The benthic samples examined yielded 7 genera and 15 species; of these Micronereis variegata Claparède, 1863 is recorded for the first time in Turkish waters. The morphological characteristics of the specimens collected in various biotopes are discussed and a taxonomic key to the species is provided.Kurzfassung: An 7 verschiedenen Stellen in der Bucht von Izmir und Umgebung wurden Aufsammlungen von Nereididae durchgeführt. Aus den benthischen Proben wurden 15 Arten in 7 Gattungen ermittelt, darunter Micronereis variegata Claparède, 1863 als für die Türkei neue Art. Die morphologischen Eigenschaften der Arten werden beschrieben und ein Bestimmungsschlüssel gegeben.
Dioktil adipat (DOA), ikincil plastikleştirici olarak başta polivinil ve diğer polimerler olmak üzere birçok maddenin üretiminde kullanıldığı halde ekotoksikolojik etkileri hakkında çok az bilgi vardır. Subletal düzeyde ve kısa süreli DOA maruziyetinin Labidochromis caeruleus'un (sarı prenses) solungaçları üzerindeki birincil etkilerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla balık örnekleri iki kontrol ve bir deneme grubu olmak üzere üç gruba ayrılmıştır. 30 günlük deneme süresi sonunda solungaç dokuları histolojik olarak incelenmiştir. 0.75 ppm DOA uygulanan deneme grubundan alınan doku örnekleri, hiçbir uygulama yapılmayan ve 2.5 ppm aseton uygulanan kontrol grupları ile karşılaştırıldığında; hipertofi, ciddi ölçüde hiperplazi, anevrizma, ödem ve çarpıcı füzyon olarak ayırt edilen histopatolojik değişimler gösterdikleri izlenmiştir. Sonuçlar, DOA'nın bir çevre kirleticisi olarak daha fazla dikkate alınması gerektiğini işaret etmektedir.
SummaryAlthough it is used widely as a second plasticizer in processing polyvinyl and other polymers, the data about the ecotoxicological effects of dioctyl adipate (DOA) is limited. In order to investigate the primer effects of short term sublethal exposure to DOA on the gills of Labidochromis caeruleus (yellow princess), the specimens were divided into three groups included two control and one experimental group. After a period of 30-days, the tissues were removed for histological examination. When compared to the untreated and 2.5 ppm acetone exposed controls, the gills of the experimental animals that exposed to 0.75 ppm DOA showed remarkable histopathological changes distinguished as hypertropy, severe hyperplasia, aneurysma, oedema, epithelial lifting, and striking fusion. The results indicate that DOA would have to take into more consideration as an ecotoxicant.
