Este artigo tem o objetivo contribuir para a compreensão acerca de um dos componentes mais importantes do debate público sobre a implementação das cotas raciais nas universidades brasileiras, o enfoque midiático sobre a referida política de ações afirmativas. Para tanto, discutimos como o jornal Folha de São Paulo, por meio de seus editoriais, no período entre 2000 e 2012, opina sobre a proposição de ingresso ao ensino superior brasileiro através de ações afirmativas. O texto está organizado em três partes. Inicialmente, há a introdução da discussão. No segundo momento, são apresentados e problematizados alguns aspectos sobre a disputa interpretativa sobre as relações raciais no Brasil. Em seguida, analisamos como as questões relacionadas à questão racial e às ações afirmativas são abordadas nos editoriais do jornal no contexto histórico selecionado para pesquisa. A investigação apontou que o jornal alterou sua posição sobre ações afirmativas centradas em critérios sociais, mas permaneceu inflexível em relação à adoção de critérios raciais como norteadores das ações afirmativas.
