Este trabalho foi desenvolvido a partir do interesse dos autores por aplicativos de carona enquanto potenciais redutores de desemprego em âmbito local. Optou-se então pela realização de uma pesquisa de campo no município de Botucatu, interior de São Paulo, na busca por informações relevantes para a compreensão de como os aplicativos influenciam na dinâmica econômica local, considerando a diversidade de perfis e objetivos de motoristas que aderem a este meio de trabalho. Para obter dados dos motoristas relacionados aos interesses da pesquisa, foram distribuídos formulários através do Google, onde 58 motoristas, entre as faixas etárias de 22 e 64 anos responderam duas sessões de perguntas, primeiramente quatro sobre seus gêneros, faixas etárias, tempo de residência em Botucatu (aos que residem) e os aplicativos para os quais trabalham e posteriormente cinco perguntas que fazem relação ao trabalho em si, tendo a segunda sessão maior foco de análises. Em seguida, as respostas foram analisadas em sua totalidade, e com isso foi possível explicar algumas tendências locais de adesão ao aplicativo como empregabilidade, interesses em termos de modalidades de trabalho, objetivos e seguridade. Ao final das análises do questionário, os autores propõem alternativas socialmente sustentáveis de gerenciamento dos aplicativos por parte de suas respectivas empresas, bem como a necessidade de participação de outros órgãos administrativos.
