MICROSTRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION D-SI ABRASIVE COMPOSITES OBTAINED IN SINTERING CYCLIC HPHT AbstractThe overall objective was to produce and characterize the microstructure of a nanostructured composite abrasive in D-Si system, via high pressure high temperature (HPHT) cyclic sintering. Cyclic sintering at high pressure and high temperature composites is made from a mixture of 70% diamond and 30% Si as a binder, which was ground by high energy milling then being nanometric so particle. Sintering was carried out by 1 to 4 pressure cycles (P) 7GPa-4GPa and temperature (T) 1600 °C-300°C for a time (t) of 1 min. The analysis of X-ray diffraction showed the occurrence, in addition to diamond, SiC, FeSi and graphite. The SEM and EDS analysis showed a uniform distribution of diamond crystals in a SiC matrix. The analysis of the samples fractured region showed that all diamond crystals were covered by the binder, or the alloy formed from the interaction carbon and silicon. Eventually, it is concluded that this study improved the MCDs production technique for use in future bit oil well drilling bits.
