This paper presents a new dependence language modeling approach to information retrieval. The approach extends the basic language modeling approach based on unigram by relaxing the independence assumption. We integrate the linkage of a query as a hidden variable, which expresses the term dependencies within the query as an acyclic, planar, undirected graph. We then assume that a query is generated from a document in two stages: the linkage is generated first, and then each term is generated in turn depending on other related terms according to the linkage. We also present a smoothing method for model parameter estimation and an approach to learning the linkage of a sentence in an unsupervised manner. The new approach is compared to the classical probabilistic retrieval model and the previously proposed language models with and without taking into account term dependencies. Results show that our model achieves substantial and significant improvements on TREC collections.
A series of spirooxindolo-pyrrolidines, pyrrolizidines, and pyrrolothiazoles hybrid compounds were prepared in good yields by regioselective, three-component, 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions between α, β-unsaturated ketones with furanyl substituents and unstable azomethine ylides, which were generated in situ from isatin and various types of amino acids. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activities against a spectrum of pathogens. Preliminary studies identified compound 5c as a potent antimicrobial agent against drug-resistant bacteria. In addition, molecular docking studies indicated that compound 5c showed strong interactions with the active sites of lanosterol demethylase, dihydrofolate reductase, and topoisomerase II. This study provides an effective entry to the rapidly construction of a chemical library of heterocycles and compound 5c is one potent antibacterial lead for subsequent optimization.
The direct air-cooling steam turbines have been operated more and more in the north of China. The backpressure of a turbine is affected easily with weather and varies very often in a short time. The variation of backpressure in a larger range from about 10 to 60 kPa causes many problems in design and operation of the turbine. To study the properties of the wet steam flow in the low pressure direct air-cooling steam turbine, an optical-pneumatic probe was developed based on the multi-wavelength light extinction and four-hole wedge probe. Measurements with this probe in a 300 MW direct air-cooling turbine were carried out. The measured local wetness, total wetness of exhaust steam, size distribution of fine droplets, and their profiles along the blade height are presented. The measured cylinder efficiency and total wetness agree well with the results obtained by the thermal performance tests.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
