The present paper concerns a crucial problem of contemporary public finances, that is the public debt. Apart from the definition, the causes and methods of incurring debt , the present paper demonstrates the acceptable limits of being indebted. Furthermore, the paper presents the scale of public debt in the world and the current status of public finances of Spain (one of the most indebted countries).

Public debt is currently one of the biggest economic issue in Poland. In the last few years, its proportions systematically increased. The debt of government as well as local government sector grew. The ministry of finances made various efforts to reduce the public debt by prior buying of liabilities and accounting manipulations.
This paper describes the key phenomenon occurring in the contemporary world economy, which is foreign direct investments. The paper focuses mostly on the scale of FDI flow in the world. Furthermore, much attention was paid to the determinants of the inflow of investments and to their economic consequences.
