A pesquisa tem por objetivo identificar se os critérios de avaliação da informação que os adolescentes e jovens (AJ) utilizam ao consumir conteúdo que circula nas mídias sociais encontram correlação com a literatura científica da Ciência da Informação (CI). O estudo compreende a avaliação da informação como uma competência infocomunicacional e as mídias sociais como uma das fontes de informação mais utilizadas por AJ. A abordagem metodológica é de cunho quantitativo e como delineamento do estudo trata-se uma pesquisa de campo. Foram identificados 18 critérios de avaliação da informação na literatura científica da CI e 12 deles foram apontados pelos 196 AJ ouvidos como critérios utilizados. Foi possível identificar que todos os 18 critérios da literatura são utilizados pelos AJ, mesmo que em menor grau. A partir dos resultados, a pesquisa conclui pela necessidade de educação para a informação e ressalta a importância do pensamento crítico.
