The study sought to establish the factors influencing access to credit among small and mediumscale enterprises in Kitale Municipality. The study was guided by the following objectives: to find out how lending procedures affect access to credit by small and medium scale enterprises; to find out how collateral requirements influence access to credit by SMEs; to establish the relationship between the credit bureau referencing policies and access to credit by SMEs; and to find out the influence of education and entrepreneur training and access to credit by SMEs. A descriptive survey design method was used to collect data. The target population was made up of the 726 SME's registered with Kitale Municipal Council. Stratified random sampling technique was used to determine the sample size. Using the Krejcie and Morgan formula a sample size of 256 SME's was considered for the study. Data was collected by the use of questionnaires and interviews. Piloting of the study was carried out in the to ascertain the validity and reliability of the instruments. Data analysis included the use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics involved the use of frequency tables, pie charts, graphs and percentages while inferential statistics involved the use of correlation analysis. The study established that among the factors that lending procedures, collateral requirement, credit bureau referencing policies and training offered by finance Institutions significantly influence access to credit facility by SME from financial institutions. The key recommendation was that information symmetry should be enhanced between CRBs and financial institutions on one hand and SMEs on the other hand.
Purpose-The purpose of this research was to assess the role of organizational innovation in sustainable competitive advantage of universities in Kenya. Specifically, the study examined the role of product innovation, administration innovation, and process innovation in sustainable competitive advantage of universities in Kenya. Design/methodology/approach-The paper adopted a cross-sectional survey design to generate quantitative data to test the research hypotheses. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 57 universities out of a target population of 67 universities accredited to undertake university education in Kenya. Primary data was collected by use of self administered questionnaires which were distributed through drop and pick method to a total sample size of 285 academic leaders selected by purposive sampling. A total of 215 complete responses were used for analyses. Data analysis was by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24. Simple and multiple regression analyses were used for hypotheses testing. Findings-This research provides empirical evidence on the links between organizational innovation and sustainable competitive advantage. Results revealed that organizational innovation, product innovation, administration innovation, and process innovation play significant role in sustainable competitive advantage of universities in Kenya. The research concluded that organizational innovation forms the basis for building sustainable competitive advantage. Research limitations/implications-This research has some important limitations that need to be taken into consideration. The study used a cross-sectional survey design with only quantitative measures which can be improved upon by longitudinal studies with mixed quantitative and quantitative measures. Practical implications-The research has significantly attempted to expand extant literature in strategic management, organizational innovation and sustainable competitive advantage by making several significant contributions.
The main objective of the study was to investigate the role of inventory management on the competitive advantage of manufacturing firms in Kenya, with reference to Unga Group Limited. Specifically, the study assessed the extent to which information technology is used in inventory management in Unga Group Limited, determine how inventory lead time, inventory control and inventory control practices affect competitive advantage of Unga group limited. The study adopted a descriptive research design to support and meet the research objectives. The target population was all the 289 employees working at Unga Group Limited headquarters who directly deal with inventory management. Stratified sampling and simple random sampling techniques were employed in the selection of 30 respondents. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected using self-administered questionnaires consisting of closed ended and open-ended questions. The data collected was analyzed by descriptive statistics using a statistical package for analysis (SPSS). The study revealed that information technology, inventory control systems, inventory lead time and inventory control practices are important factors in attainment of competitive advantage of manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study recommended that the firm should embrace inventory control systems and information technology so as to improve and enhance competitive advantage. This study also recommended a similar research on other industries to ascertain whether the findings of the study are universal.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of inventory management on supply chain performance in terms of profitability, reliability, cost, responsiveness, flexibility and asset management efficiency of textile manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study was guided by the inventory management theory. The study adopted the convergent parallel mixed methods design. The study targeted a total of 196 respondents drawn from employees of procurement departments and departmental heads of respective 15 textile manufacturing industries operating in Nairobi County. The sample size was therefore 139 respondents. Stratified and simple random sampling methods were used to select employees of procurement departments from their respective textile firms. Questionnaires and interview schedules were used to gather the data from primary sources. The study applied the use of both qualitative and quantitative data which was analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS Version 22). Inferential statistics using hierarchical multiple regression and Correlation analysis was applied to test the relationship between the variable and formulated hypothesis. The final analyzed
The purpose of the study was to analyse the determinants of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards on employee performance. The specific objectives were: To examine the effect of employee Motivation on organizational Performance; to evaluate the effect of Employee Commitment on Organizational Performance; to determine the effect of employee training on organizational performance in Kapsara Company Kitale, Trans Nzoia County. Literature was reviewed based on the study objectives. The study was conceptualized on two main theories which were incentive and process theories. It adopted a descriptive survey research design. It targeted a population of 60 employees from various departments including; the senior management, middle level managers, supervisors and the general workers. Census technique was used to select the sample of the study hence; all the population was targeted as a sample. Questionnaires were used as the primary tools for data collection. The instruments were tested for test reliability through a pilot study at Kiptagich tea factory which did not fall within the study area. Data was collected from the field, coded and cleaned of any missing variable and categorized manually according to the questionnaire items. It was then transferred into the computer sheet and processed using the statistical package for social sciences version 20.0. The data was analysed using a regression model and presented using frequency distribution tables and percentages.
