A ocorrência de incêndios em escolas de ensino fundamental não só gera diversos prejuízos à saúde e à vida da comunidade escolar, mas também acarreta a alteração do cotidiano interrompendo inesperadamente o funcionamento habitual da escola devido ao seu caráter destrutivo. Objetivou-se conhecer as tecnologias de saúde utilizadas no enfrentamento do incêndio em escolas de ensino fundamental, utilizando conceitos da Saúde Coletiva. A pesquisa qualitativa utilizou o método da Teoria Fundamentada em Dados contemplando nove entrevistas semiestruturadas com alunos, familiares, professores, funcionários ou bombeiros, dois encontros de grupo focal realizados com seis professoras e um simulado de incêndio que reuniu 147 integrantes da comunidade escolar e sete bombeiros. A coleta de dados deu-se entre maio e julho de 2017. A análise dos dados levou ao conceito explicativo “tecnologias de saúde – enfrentamento de incêndio em escolas de ensino fundamental” sustentado por três categorias: incêndio, uma experiência vivida e sentida; o enfrentamento às situações de incêndio na perspectiva da comunidade escolar; a responsabilidade do Estado. Os resultados contextualizam processos intercessores entre cidadania e saúde, educação e Estado pelo potencial educativo que levam a comunidade escolar à (re)organização e graus de liberdade significativos para enfrentar um incêndio ou dele proteger-se.
