These results support that cervical kinematics are altered in NP patients, with velocity most affected. There is potential for VP subjects to also have altered kinematics, especially those who experience dizziness. More research is required.
We examine how high-reliability teams (HRTs) manage job-related diversity, which refers to differences among team members in skills and experiences relevant to work tasks. Managing job-related diversity is important in HRTs because of the need for consistent performance in time-pressured situations with serious consequences for error. In a qualitative study, we observe and interview members of HRTs in a public hospital emergency department in Australia. Our findings reveal a set of six strategies that HRTs in emergency departments use to manage different types of job-related diversity. Strategies of active explanations and experience-based task assignment manage educational diversity within HRT team processes. Strategies of deferring to a single leader and balancing delegation and participative leadership manage power diversity. Finally, strategies of sequential specialist involvement and a co-production mindset manage functional diversity. Our theoretical model of these strategies and their implications for team processes deepen understanding of job-related diversity in HRTs. Our study contributes to the literature by (1) shining light on managing the double-edged sword of job-related diversity in HRTs; (2) opening up insight into differences in diversity management processes between HRTs and traditional teams; and (3) informing debate in the broader teams literature about specific versus generic processes for managing diversity.
PurposeThe paper’s purpose is to consider, using a transaction cost economics (TCE) framework, the mechanisms used by space agencies to encourage private investment in the commercial spaceflight sector.Design/methodology/approachThe authors conducted a content analysis of 554 pages of news articles, relating to issues pertaining to partnerships between national government-based space agencies and private space travel providers, published over a 20-year period. Leximancer was used to initially screen the data and then the authors manually analysed the content to identify themes.FindingsThe data analysis revealed three themes, relating to: the uncertainty of space travel; National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) stimulating innovation in the private sector; and risk, insurance and regulation. These themes informed by TCE reveal the “hierarchical” organisational forms used to achieve human spaceflight and then the “hybrids”, insurance and regulations used to stimulate private sector investment and innovation.Originality/valueThis paper contributes to the accounting literature by answering the calls of Alewine (2020) and Tucker and Alewine (2022a, b) for more research into accounting in the space context. Specifically, the paper contributes by identifying mechanisms used by NASA to stimulate private investment in the space travel sector, as well as issues that have affected the implementation of these mechanisms. The paper also contributes to the literature by, based on the analysis, identifying a series of reflections designed to stimulate further management accounting research in the space context.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
