Introducción. Los procesos enfocados en una producción lineal se caracterizan por el consumo desmedido de recursos naturales, por lo cual el desafío actual de la mejora continua es la aplicación de sistemas de gestión sostenibles que creen una visión cíclica de producción con el fin de aprovechar los recursos usualmente desechados, este concepto es llevado al aprovechamiento de las aguas residuales y los tratamientos de depuración previos a la reutilización. Objetivo. Identificar el método más efectivo para la depuración de aguas residuales y encontrar relación entre los procesos productivos y la generación de agua residuales. Metodología. Se realizaron análisis y revisiones de las fuentes investigativas de los últimos 7 años empezando desde el 1 de enero del 2015 al 8 de agosto del 2022, en la cual se usó la revisión sistemática de la literatura (RSL) mediante motores de búsqueda como Sciencedirect, Scielo.Org, Dimensions y Dialnet, también se hizo uso de los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Resultados. Se estableció la relación entre las variables demostrando la necesidad de implementar plantas de tratamiento acorde a la producción, por lo cual se realizó un análisis de los diferentes tratamientos como son los biológico, físicos y fisicoquímicos. Conclusiones. Mediante la RSL, se analizaron varios métodos de depuración de los cuales se concluyó que los tratamientos fisicoquímicos son los de mayor efectividad para la depuración de aguas residuales generadas en las industrias.
