Prenatal genetic counselors (GCs) provide care for pregnant patients and may play a critical role in the care coordination of patients receiving an abnormal fetal diagnosis. Professional guidelines and position statements alike highlight the role of GCs in aiding patients in navigating the entire spectrum of reproductive decision-making.The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) recommends that every pregnant patient be offered the option of prenatal genetic screening and diagnostic testing and highlights the services provided by GCs in helping patients to make such decisions (ACOG, 2022).
