Objetivo: Verificar o nível de saúde dos candidatos para transplante hepático em uma cidade da Amazônia ocidental brasileira. Métodos: Estudo transversal realizado com candidatos para transplante hepático, residentes em Rio Branco, Acre, nos meses de agosto a outubro de 2012. Para a obtenção dos dados, foi realizada entrevista estruturada e análise do prontuário clínico do paciente com formulário contendo dados sociodemográficos, nível de saúde (físico e mental) e utilizadas as escalas Hospitalar de Ansiedade e Depressão e Abreviada de Qualidade de Vida (WHOQOL-Bref). Foram realizadas as medidas de tendência central para as variáveis contínuas e frequência absoluta e relativa para as variáveis dicotômicas. A análise foi realizada utilizando-se o programa SPSS 17.0. Resultados: A maioria dos pacientes em fila de espera era do sexo masculino; entre os homens, 50,0% tinham mais de 50 anos de idade e 57,1% das mulheres tinham de 31 a 50 anos de idade. Os homens obtiveram a maior média de peso quando comparados às mulheres; a maioria apresentava o vírus da hepatite B e MELD acima de 15, correspondendo a 71,4% entre as mulheres. Quanto às comorbidades, a gastrite correspondeu a 37,5% e hipertensão arterial, a 25,0%. Os sinais e sintomas mais comumente encontrados foram o edema nos membros inferiores (75%) e a ascite (62%). Na avaliação da ansiedade e depressão, utilizando o HADS, a ansiedade foi verificada em 12,5% dos pacientes e a depressão em 37,5%. No que se refere à qualidade de vida dos pacientes entrevistados, segundo os domínios do WHOQOL-Bref, as menores médias foram observadas nos domínios ambiental (média de 54,9 pontos) e físico (média de 55,1 pontos). No entanto, ao avaliar individualmente os domínios, segundo a menor pontuação de escore, o domínio social obteve o menor valor em um dos pacientes entrevistados (25 pontos de escore). Conclusão: A avaliação do nível de saúde dos candidatos a transplante hepático de uma cidade da Amazônia ocidental brasileira identificou que esses pacientes precisam de assistência direcionada ao sobrepeso pré-transplante, assim como para as comorbidades gastrite, hipertensão arterial e o VHB, que devem ser controladas e tratadas, incluindo assistência mental para a ansiedade e depressão e suporte social para aguardarem e estarem aptos para a realização do transplante hepático.
