Las preguntas que conducen este trabajo se relacionan, por un lado, con los lugares de memoria; y por el otro, con cómo un lugar de la historia se convierte en lugar del recuerdo, y sus implicancias, desde una perspectiva arqueológica. Tomando como caso de análisis Leipzig (Alemania), a pesar de la reglamentación patrimonial y los medios puestos en políticas de memoria se está perdiendo información sobre la historia contemporánea que permitiría completar vacíos de investigación, así como aportar nuevas perspectivas de análisis sobre el nacionalsocialismo. El rol que la cultura material juega en la historiografía daría cuenta de un complejo proceso de invisibilización al que ha sido conducida la materialidad y, con ello, confinados determinados aspectos de la historia.
