The purpose of this article is to provide a brief review of single-subject research methods that will stimulate the use of these procedures with both researchers and practitioners. Problems inherent in experimental and quasi-experimental designs are delineated, and the robustness of single subject techniques against these problems is discussed. In addition, fundamental single subject designs are described and examples of their potential application in practical settings with deaf subjects are provided.
