O câncer de mama é o mais comum dentre as mulheres. Ações de rastreamento buscam diminuir a morbidade e mortalidade por essa neoplasia, identificando tumores em fases iniciais para melhorar as chances de reabilitação e cura. Objetivo: analisar se houve redução ou aumento das taxas de mamografias no biênio 2020-2021 em comparação ao biênio 2018-2019 no Brasil, suas Regiões e Unidades da Federação. Método: por meio dos dados do DATASUS de projeção populacional e mamografias aprovadas no SUS em mulheres de 50 a 69 anos, nos anos de 2018 a 2021, calcularam-se as taxas de cobertura de exames por mulheres alcançadas e a redução ou aumento dessas taxas entre os biênios. Resultados: de maneira geral, o Brasil apresentou uma redução de cerca de 30% de exames em 2020/2021 com relação a 2018/2019. Na Região Sul observou-se a maior redução: 33% menos mamografias, enquanto a Região Norte apresentou a menor: aproximadamente 11% de redução. Dentre as Unidades da Federação, verificou-se um aumento de mamografias realizadas durante a pandemia no Distrito Federal (25%), Roraima (15%), Pará (5%) e no Amapá, que alcançou 3.228%, em contraponto com os demais estados, que apresentaram redução no mesmo período. Conclusão: houve uma redução nacional de cerca de 30% na quantidade de mamografias aprovadas no SUS no biênio 2020-2021 em comparação a 2018-2019. Apesar disso, o Distrito Federal, Roraima, Pará e Amapá apresentaram taxas positivas, que podem indicar boas ações públicas em saúde voltadas para o rastreamento, passíveis de serem replicadas em futuras políticas pelos demais estados.
O rastreamento do câncer de mama no Brasil é realizado, prioritariamente, de modo oportunístico, por meio de exames mamográficos. Objetivou-se descrever quantitativamente o parque tecnológico disponível para o rastreamento do câncer de mama quanto a mamógrafos (MMs) e exames de mamografia (MMG). Trata-se de estudo quantitativo, que analisou banco de dados oficiais e de acesso público no período de 2015 a 2021. A quantidade de MMs em uso foi extraída do Cadastro Nacional de Estabelecimentos de Saúde (CNES), já a parcela de mulheres atendidas por planos de saúde (PS), dos dados da Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar (ANS), e a estimativa da população-alvo (PA) do Departamento de Informática do SUS (DATASUS), de onde também se extraiu a quantidade de mamografias (MMGs) aprovadas no SUS. Concluiu-se que há MMs em uso excedentes para atender a PA de todo o Brasil e suas regiões, sendo em maior número no Sudeste e em menor no Norte. Dentre as Unidades da Federação (UF), São Paulo apresentou maior quantidade de aparelhos em uso. Acre, Roraima e Amapá contaram com os menores quantitativos de aparelhos em uso SUS. Quanto aos estados com menos MMs em uso não SUS, destacaram-se Roraima, Acre, Amapá e Tocantins, todos nos anos de 2015 a 2021, e Alagoas, no ano de 2018. Duas UF apontaram falta de MMs para atender ambas as populações, durante alguns anos do período analisado: Acre e Distrito Federal. Os exames de MMG aprovados no SUS não atingiram a meta de 50% de cobertura da PA ED.
