The mechanism of stress is already known and can be divided in two stages: acute stress, which releases thermogenic factors and inflammatory -mediated interleukin 6 (IL6) and chronic stress, which suppresses the inflammatory response and is mediated by the presence of cortisol. When stray dogs are housed in shelters, they undergo a period of adaptation; however, until now there is not a ressocialization program at the governmental level aiming to improve their welfare along with their new owners. The ressocialization program beginning when dogs arrive to the shelter and the correlation of dogs´ behavior with physiological and endocrine parameters related to stress have not yet been described , which raises the hypothesis that it can decrease the traumatic impact of abandonment. Twenty seven healthy bitches were divided into 3 groups: with owners, abandoned not trained and abandoned trained.The trained and abandoned dogs were later adopted. The training lasted 15 min / day for 21 days. The behavioral assessment (ethogram and ethotest) was performed every 7 days and physiological parameters assessment (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygenation rate, pulse) as well as saliva collection, daily. After the adoption, the bitches were evaluated for 7 additional days. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, after testing the results for normality. The correlation between parameters was analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. Values were considered different at p < 0.05. The most surprisingly result was the maintenance of low levels of IL6 in trained dogs after neutering, whereas the other two groups showed a significant increase of IL6. The consequences of training were evident in ethograms after adoption: there was an improvement of the interaction of dogs with the new family, attitudes of playing were more numerous, and dogs showed a greater receptivity to the new owners. The tail wagging, as communication behavior, appeared much more frequently in trained dogs after adoption. Abandoned dogs after adoption manifested more idleness, discouragement and depression behaviors and reduced alertness.These results suggest that the training reassures bitches in the stressful shelter environment, improves their physiological parameters, controls fear behaviors making them more able to adapt to the new environment after adoption. Pesq. Vet. Bras. 32(8) Among marine mammals, whale is one of the most attention-arousing animals, especially concerning its urinary tract. This system follows the pattern of mammals with regard to its constitution, however, it differs in renal morphology and number of lobes, which, in turn, form complete reniculi, agglutinated in hundreds. This structure is supported by ϐi-brous connective tissue, but highly capable of maintaining electrolyte balance. Six pairs of kidneys of Minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), collected in 1982, in Cabedelo, Paraiba, Brazil, in the last ϐishing allowed, were dissected. These kidneys were preserved in 10% formaldehyde and they presented a very large histologic layer of collagen surrounding the medullary wall. The urinary collecting duct form papillary glasses, that reach a single collecting center which discharges in the ureter. It was found that the kidney of Minke whale has a lobe characteristic, with, on average, 700 reniculi; each reniculus has anatomical and functional characteristics of a unipyramidal kidney, with an inner layer (medulla), and an outer layer (cortex), and independent irrigation, with formation of individually arcuate arteries, as observed in unipyramidal terrestrial mammals. However, the set gathering all these reniculi constitutes, in the end, a multilobular and polipyramidal kidney, contrary to the morphology of most terrestrial mammals. It was not possible to distinguish the renicular cortex structures of the Minke whale in the level of light microscopy. Through scanning electron microscopy, it was possible to visualize a cortical layer located between two ϐibrous capsules. This joint, in turn, consists of connective tissue, which, along with a layer of collagen and elastic ϐibers, separates the cortex from the medulla; the kidney glomeruli were visualized, completely taken by the glomerular vessels and arranged into several layers. One notices that the glomerular cavity is almost a virtual space into which the glomerular ϐiltrate is drained, and it does not present a globular shape. Vascularization is increased in the medullary region.
Objetivando oferecer subsídios ao conhecimento da anatomia comparativa, e em apoio a linha de pesquisa em andamento no Laboratório de Anatomia Veterinária da Universidade Federal do Paraná/Campus Palotina, o presente trabalho visa fornecer dados sobre a anatomia do sistema excretor do fígado dos taiassuídeos, em particular do queixada (Tayassu pecari). Para tal utilizaram-se 20 fígados de queixadas adultos, 12 machos e 8 fêmeas, os quais tiveram as vias bilíferas injetadas, através do ducto colédoco, com solução corada de Neoprene Látex "450", até a total repleção do sistema, em seguida colocados em solução aquosa de formol a 10 % para sua fixação. Após a dissecação, esquematização e análise, julgase poder concluir que: a) o queixada, diferente de outros suiformes, não apresenta vesícula biliar; b) o ductus choledocus encontra-se, na maioria das preparações (17 vezes), formado pela convergência dos ramus principalis dexter e ramus principalis sinistri, ao passo que nas demais peças, resulta da tríplice união dos ramus principalis dexter, ramus principalis sinistri e ramus lobi quadrati (2 vezes) ou do ramus principalis dexter, ramus principalis sinistri e ramus ventralis lobi dextri (1 vez); c) o sistema do ramus principalis dexter aparece constituído pelo ramus dorsalis lobi dextri, ramus medius lobi dextri, ramus ventralis lobi dextri e ramus processi caudati; d) compõem o sistema do ramus principalis sinistri, o ramus lobi sinistri lateralis, o ramus lobi sinistri medialis, o ramus lobi quadrati (6 vezes) e ramus processi caudati (13 vezes), além de frequentes contribuições provenientes do lobus medialis dextri e, até mesmo, do processi caudati; e) não foram evidenciadas anastomoses pelos critérios de observação utilizados, assim como não ficaram evidentes diferenças estatisticamente significantes em relação aos sexos, ao nível de 5,0%, ao confrontarem-se os aspectos investigados.
