Hormônios sexuais femininos, naturais e sintéticos, são produzidos em grandes concentrações em áreas urbanas, proporcionais à população. Estes hormônios são lançados em esgotos domésticos in natura e/ou sem o devido tratamento nas estações de tratamento de esgoto. Pequenas concentrações destes compostos podem causar algum dano à saúde humana e ambiental, mas os mesmos podem ser utilizados para monitorar a contaminação de corpos d´água pelos esgotos domésticos. O presente trabalho objetivou verificar a ocorrência de hormônios sexuais femininos como parâmetro de avaliação da contaminação de águas urbanas em rios intermitentes do semiárido brasileiro. Para isto, amostras de águas foram coletadas entre 2016 e 2017, tratadas e concentradas para análise. Foi avaliada a ocorrência dos hormônios naturais 17β-estradiol, estrona, estriol e o hormônio sintético 17α-etinilestradiol em amostras de água, coletadas em poços artesianos e no esgoto bruto urbano, ao longo do perímetro do Rio Sucurú e Riacho Pedra Comprida, no município de Sumé. As análises foram performadas em Cromatografia Líquida de Alta Eficiência, em Fase Reversa (CLAE-FR). Nas amostras de água coletadas, foram detectadas e quantificadas a presença dos hormônios estona e estriol, tendo suas concentrações variando de acordo com alguns fatores climáticos e meteorológicos, tais como, precipitação e temperatura. Em todos os poços ao longo das cinco coletas realizadas, em algum período, foram detectados alguns dos hormônios estriol e/ou estrona, exceto no esgoto bruto. Os resultados demonstraram as maiores concentrações na segunda, terceira e quarta coletas, com 299,47 ng/L, 224,61 ng/L e 216,00 ng/L, respectivamente, em poços distintos e a influência da precipitação pluviométrica sobre essas ocorrências. Estes resultados sugerem a importância do monitoramento da água, bem como, a busca por alternativas viáveis para a prevenção da contaminação dos corpos d´água vitais neste ecossistema.
