Favipiravir is a drug developed for use against influenza and has been used successfully in other infectious conditions. After being internalized in the cell, the substance is phosphoribosylated acting on the RNA polymerase, and thus inhibiting replication and RNA viruses. Thus, the present study aimed to discuss the potential use of favipiravir in coronovavirus infections. There have been few studies involving favipiravir in COVID 19, however there is a report of recovery in more than 70% of patients diagnosed with pneumonia. However, new studies need to be carried out, mainly randomized clinical trials, so that the potential use of favipiravir in coronoviruses is adequately grounded.
Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) can be incorporated into medical devices, such as tissues, to circumvent bacterial resistance such as Klebsiella spp, which can lead to skin and mucosal infections. Thus, the aim of the present study was to synthesize silver nanoparticles for later incorporation into cotton fabrics and in vitro tests against Klebsiella spp. The AgNP colloidal solution was synthesized (AgNO3 - 0.1 mM, 100 mM trisodium citrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone - 0.24 g, H2OH2) and then impregnated into the cotton fabric pretreated with poly diallyl dimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) of 100/500 tissue, shaken for 30 minutes). The material produced was analyzed by the FTIR; DLS and reflectance spectroscopy. The tests of the antimicrobial activities were by the microdilution technique against Klebsiella spp, in tubes containing Brain Heart Infusion (BHI), with the solution of silver (1); Tissue containing AgNP - 4 mm (2); Negative control (3) and positive control - ceftriaxone (4). Regarding MIC, the inhibitory activity occurred of the dilutions between 1/2 and 1/16. The AgNP particles had an average size of 24.75 nm. As synthesized AgNPs demonstrate the excellent antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella spp, with special emphasis on applications in nanotechnology and nanomedicine, targeting multiresistant antibiotic bacteria.
Introduction: Syphilis is an infection with increasing incidence in Brazilian regions, and the congenital form is liable to lead to cerebral palsy and musculoskeletal deformity. The objective of this study was to analyze the prevalence of congenital syphilis in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Methods: An exploratory and retrospective study was performed from 2015 to 2017. Public domain data and unrestricted access were used in the DATASUS computer department through the TABNET application. The following variables were collected: age range, clinical evolution (congenital syphilis late, late congenital syphilis, stillbirth / syphilis abortion, ignored / blank, discarded; live birth), mother's schooling, performed prenatal and residence zone. Results: In Brazil, there were 75,733 cases, whereas in the State of Rio Grande do Norte there were 1,436 cases of congenital syphilis, out of which a greater number of confirmed cases affected age group of 0-6 days (97.6%). The highest number of cases was observed in the city of Natal (75.8%), followed by Mossoró (7.8%) and Parnamirim (5.7%). Conclusion: The study shows that the incidence of congenital syphilis occurs predominantly in incomplete elementary schooling and in the urban area. It was also verified that the diagnosis of most cases of congenital syphilis occurred in the age group up to 6 days of life, which contributes to the rates of evolution with the living child. In addition, a greater number of confirmed cases of congenital syphilis were observed, and prenatal care was performed, indicating a serious failure in care.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
