No Brasil, cerca de 3 milhões de toneladas/ano de escória de aciaria são gerados pelas usinas siderúrgicas. A indústria da construção civil pode consumir este resíduo, mas, para que ele seja aplicado convenientemente, é necessário que suas características sejam conhecidas e, eventualmente, modificadas. O objetivo deste trabalho é caracterizar e comparar a microestrutura de dois tipos de escória de aciaria, LD e EAF, usando-se as seguintes técnicas: análise química, difração de raios-X e microscopia eletrônica de varredura completada pela análise por EDS. Pela análise química, foi determinada a composição centesimal do material, em termos de óxidos; a difração de raios-X permitiu a identificação das fases cristalizadas presentes; as observações pelo MEV mostraram a textura, a profundidade de campo, as morfologias dos compostos e, com o auxílio da EDS, foram analisadas as fases presentes. Os resultados obtidos foram comparados entre si, de modo a caracterizar a microestrutura das escórias de aciaria. Os resultados das análises, bem como as microfractografias, de algumas fases identificadas presentes no material são apresentados e discutidos.
