La hidropesía fetal o edema congénito, se caracteriza por una excesiva acumulación de fluidos subcutáneoscon o sin presencia de efusión torácica y abdominal. Se estudiaron 34 hembras (13 de bulldog inglés, 9 deBulldog francés y 12 American Bully) con un total de 173 cachorros nacidos. Todas las hembras fueronmonitoreadas desde el servicio y fueron sometidas a cesárea programada 56 días después del primer día deldiestro citológico. En 3 camadas de Bulldog Francés, 5 camadas de Bulldog Inglés y 2 camadas deAmerican Bully se registraron nacimientos de cachorros con anasarca. Los grados de anasarca observadososcilaron desde grados severos hasta leves. Todos los cachorros nacidos con anasarca murieron dentro delas 2 hs de nacidos. Nuestros resultados sugieren que el factor hereditario se encuentra presente. Sinembargo, se necesitan más estudios para clarificar la heredabilidad del problema mediante la identificaciónde los genes involucrados en las líneas familiares que producen cachorros con anasarca1.
