Jogos Olímpicos, comunicação e mídia têm uma forte relação ao longo da história, contribuindo para transformações sociais e tecnológicas de grande impacto cultural. Neste artigo, com o intuito de identificar as evoluções das transformações nas narrativas olímpicas e suas transmissões, propomos uma análise exploratória de como o conteúdo em realidade virtual esteve presente e foi utilizado em duas edições dos Jogos Olímpicos: Rio de Janeiro 2016 (verão) e Pyeongchang 2018 (inverno). Para isso, foi realizado um breve resgate das apropriações das tecnologias comunicacionais ao longo das edições citadas. Por fim, buscou-se um entendimento da utilização da realidade virtual nas transmissões por meio de coletas de postagens de usuários do Twitter durante a realização das competições.
