INTRODUÇÃO: A terapia do riso vem ganhando espaço e destaque no dia a dia dos hospitais, sendo apontado como um processo terapêutico complementar às inovações médicas e um modelo diferenciado do ato de cuidar. OBJETIVO: Analisar os impactos do riso como uma terapia adjuvante às inovações médicas no tratamento dos enfermos no contexto hospitalar. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa de literatura (RIL). Adotou-se a seguinte estratégia de busca: Laughter AND Laughter Therapy AND Hospital. As bases de dados selecionadas foram: Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (Medline) e Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LiLaCS), e em bibliotecas como: Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Periódico CAPES e Scientific Eletronic Library Online (Scielo), e para confecção também foram seguidas 6 fases que são essenciais para a síntese de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, tornando executável a produção do trabalho. RESULTADOS: As informações extraídas dos artigos demonstram a evolução que os pacientes apresentam após o início da terapia do riso, especialmente, no que se refere à modulação da dor, diminuição do quadro de ansiedade, aumento da autoestima e emoções positivas. DISCUSSÃO: Os estudos foram capazes de confirmar o impacto positivo da terapia do riso, por meio do palhaço, como terapia complementar, embora se verifique a necessidade de mais investimento de pesquisa nessa área. CONCLUSÃO: Constata-se a importância do uso da terapia do riso na rotina hospitalar auxiliando as inovações médicas e ampliando o cuidado humanizado aos pacientes.
