Résumé Si le siècle dernier a vu apparaître d’intéressantes stratégies de gestion des ressources naturelles sous la forme d’une gestion communautaire des ressources naturelles (GCRN), ces développements relèvent plus d’une évolution progressive que d’une révolution. La GCRN fait partie du plus vaste débat sur le rôle de l’État dans le développement, africain en particulier. Les parties prenantes, à différents niveaux du continuum international, national et local, y défendent des vues et des théories différentes en fonction de leur expérience et de leurs idéologies. Ces positions déterminent donc, à travers les négociations, contestations, collusions et intrigues, la forme de la GCRN et la manière de la pratiquer. En s’appuyant sur les cas du Zimbabwe et du Botswana, la présente étude rassemble ces différentes approches analytiques, pour prouver qu’à long terme, les résultats de la GCRN sont « dépendants du sentier ».
