Par l'analyse « en temps réel » de deux entretiens, cet article présente une nouvelle technique d'entretien : la mise au carré. L'intention principale de cette technique est de faciliter la récolte de données implicites tout en limitant les risques de surinterprétation. Le chercheur et la personne interrogée prennent alors ensemble le chemin de la nuance, de la contextualisation et de l'articulation dynamique des idées évoquées ou invoquées. Les non-dits et les dits se répondent dans une démarche méthodologique structurée. Cet article propose donc, après un cadrage théorique de la mise au carré, deux applications concrètes de celle-ci, l'une linéaire destinée principalement aux chercheurs qui débutent et l'autre sémantique s'adressant davantage aux chercheurs voulant explorer d'autres possibilités offertes par la technique.
Pour les linguistes, l'exemple est une auto-reformulation (De Gaulmyn, 1987; Gülich et Kotschi, 1987) qui présente une situation prenant la forme d'une paraphrase avec expansion (Gülich et Kotschi, 1987). Gülich et Kotschi (1987) parlent d'autoreformulation dans le sens où le locuteur réélabore lui-même son propre discours (déjà évoqué ou non) à travers l'exemple. La paraphrase est composée, d'une part, d'un énoncé source (l'exemplifié) et, d'autre part, d'un énoncé reformulateur (l'exemplifiant). Le lien entre ces deux composantes peut être ou non explicitée par l'orateur (Fossion et Faulx, 2015). La notion de paraphrase avec expansion recouvre le fait que l'énoncé reformulateur est plus étendu que l'énoncé source et se caractérise par « l'ajout d'éléments supplémentaires à caractère non définitoire » (Roquelaure, 2016, p. 66). Autrement dit, l'exemple va au-delà d'une définition, il l'illustre, lui donne vie, l'enrichit, la nuance. Certains auteurs précisent qu'un exemple peut être : suscité par le locuteur lui-même (auto-initié) ou faire suite à une demande de l'interlocuteur (hétéro-initié) (Blondel, 1996); produit dans l'immédiateté du discours (spontané) ou prévu en amont lors de la préparation du discours (planifié) (Zodik et Zaslavsky, 2008); signalé ou non par des marqueurs lexico-sémantiques tels que « par exemple, prenons l'exemple de, imaginons que, exemple… » (Roquelaure et Garcia Debanc, 2015).
La communication soignant/patient constitue un paramètre essentiel de la qualité des soins, particulièrement dans le contexte de l’Éducation Thérapeutique du Patient (ETP). Dans cette recherche, nous rendons compte et analysons les pratiques langagières d’infirmiers lors de consultations avec des patientes atteintes de diabète gestationnel. Pour ce faire, sur la base des retranscriptions des consultations, nous réalisons une analyse sémantique et pragmatique de l’étude du discours couplée à du text mining . Les résultats montrent que les infirmières mobilisent des pratiques langagières diverses (expressions phatiques, adoucisseurs, métaphores, questions rhétoriques, exemples…). Parmi les résultats, nous pointons que les expressions phatiques et les adoucisseurs sont des procédés langagiers omniprésents dans le discours des soignants, que les mots utilisés par les infirmiers sont pour la plupart relatifs au contrôle, à la permission et à l’obligation, ou encore que la participation du patient à la production de discours est très limitée. Nous pointons plus largement la présence toujours importante du modèle paternaliste dans les consultations médicales, ce qui est étonnant compte tenu des objectifs poursuivis par l’ETP. En conclusion, l’article participe à une compréhension plus fine des pratiques langagières mobilisées par les infirmiers et ouvre une réflexion quant aux possibles perspectives de formations à destination des soignants.
Cette étude s’intéresse à la façon dont les étudiants donnent du sens aux exemples qui leur sont proposés au travers des discours pédagogiques. Les objectifs de cette recherche sont (1) d’identifier des propriétés d’exemple (2) d’observer leurs impacts chez les étudiants et (3) d’établir des liens entre ces propriétés et ces impacts. À partir de 15 entretiens individuels d’étudiants universitaires, nous avons dégagé douze propriétés spécifiques de l’exemple et six gammes d’impacts. De plus, de nombreux liens ont pu être tissés entre ces propriétés et ces effets. Pour conclure, cette étude insiste sur l’intérêt de prendre en compte l’impact du langage dans les présentations pédagogiques et de poursuivre les recherches sur cette pratique langagière particulière afin d’améliorer les pratiques enseignantes.
