<p>O depoimento de Gilberto Dimenstein apresenta os projetos realizados no bairro da Vila Madalena, localizado na Zona Oeste de São Paulo, pela ONG Cidade Escola Aprendiz. A iniciativa de transformar o bairro em uma escola a céu aberto gerou vários projetos que, localizados em becos e praças, romperam com os muros da instituição escolar, espalhando-se por todos os espaços. As ações tiveram sua origem no Projeto Bairro-Escola, ampliando-se para: Design Social; Escola da Rua; Projeto Sem Muros; Escola da Praça. O autor destaca que, apesar dos progressos da Cidade Escola Aprendiz, desafios surgiram e foram enfrentados partindo-se do principio de que a adversidade gera oportunidade: novos parceiros foram conquistados, e consolidados aqueles que já apoiavam as ações. Buscou-se parceiros nas redes municipal e estadual de educação, para que pudessem trabalhar, durante o horário de aula, com professores habilitados como capacitadores em projetos de arte e comunicação. Dimenstein conclui que a Vila Madalena é um o pólo irradiador. Em 2004, já não era mais possível entrar no bairro, por qualquer lugar, sem esbarrar numa intervenção de arte.</p>
