Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to explore the economy of Persian Gulf countries following a post-oil economy. This is accompanied with a futurology study and planning of certain scenarios that can be applied to these countries.Design/methodology/approach -This study applies a futurology approach by investigating various scenarios to explore the Arab economy after oil. As such, a series of possible policies are proposed that can be undertaken by Arab countries depending on their public policy. Each of the suggested policies involves different scenarios that have been formed and analyzed using an era-based cellular planning system.Findings -The findings propose three main policies to be undertaken by Arab countries including: investing the oil income in miscellaneous economic baskets in order to minimize the vulnerability and maximize the profits; reducing the oil production in the coming years and transforming the one-product oil economy to a value added petrochemical economy; and seeking new sources of income and wealth. In addition, findings emphasize the necessity for using renewable and lasting wealth resources and minimizing the dependency of countries on the oil economy.Originality/value -The proposed scenarios in the study can act as strategic constructs in strengthening the scenario sets in the consecutive years and help develop other scenarios in the future. As such, this paper would be of interest to governmental advisors, strategic planners and policy-makers involved in studies related to the Middle East.
The purpose of present research is to compare the status of perceptional and behavioral consequences on employees who serve in bad-outsourced departments of one of Iranian public organizations and the status of consequences on those employees who serve in non-outsourced departments of the same organization. In this line, such variables as organizational justice, organizational commitment, organizational identity, job security and anti-citizenship behaviors are compared between two groups of staff. The findings show that the rate of organizational justice, organizational commitment, organizational identity and job security among those employees who serve in bad-outsourced sectors is lower than similar variables among non-outsourced ones. In the meantime, there is no significant difference between groups in terms of anticitizenship behaviors variable. Noteworthy, present study was conducted in summer and fall 2010 in Iran.
Success in the economy of digital age requires special capabilities. These capacities would be able to make the limited economical resources into valuable products. Among future limitations, limitation of super-specialized and expert human resources is very important and determining. Super-specialized human resources are considered as strategic factors and the structure of future organizations should be designed in a way to best utilize the capability of these resources. Therefore, the main problem of future organizations is exploiting and utilizing the knowledge of super-specialized human resources. In this regard, combining the flexibility of adhocratic organizations and expertise-oriented credit of professional bureaucratic tried to design a relatively appropriate structure in the light of Mintzberg’s perspective in order to succeed in future age or the knowledge-oriented age of digital economy.
Developing countries face numerous problems in the planning process for EG development which makes using linear processes difficult for them, and forces them to consider a specific plan for implementing plans of EG development, using nonlinear complex processes. Era-based cellular planning system (ECPS) provides the possibility for developing countries to follow EG development using non-linear processes to plan, establish, and implement it.
