DIE VERFLUCHUNG DES FEIGENBAUMES (MK. XI. 12-14) 'This is one of the most curious stories about Jesus and one which most obviously cannot be taken as sober history' urteilt Branscomb 1 im Jahre 1952 und wiederholt damit ein recht ahnliches Urteil aus dem Jahre 1904: 'Die Geschichte klingt ganz naiv, wie ein Marchen, widerstrebt hartnackig ethischer oder gar christologischer Exegese.' 2 In der Tat bietet die Perikope von der Verfluchung des Feigenbaumes in der heutigen Form einige kaum zu iiberwindende Schwierigkeiten. Daher kann es nicht verwundern, daB man sich bei naherer Information in den Kommentaren zur Stelle zumeist mit nicht besonders klar fixierten Theorien begniigen mu6 und dem Leser zudem noch die Auswahl zwischen mehreren Moglichkeiten der Erklarung offengelassen wird. Jedoch sollte die Forschung der letzten Jahrzehnte, insbesondere in formgeschichtlicher und redaktionsgeschichtlicher Hinsicht, neues Riistzeug zur Verfiigung gestellt haben, sodaB eine erneute Untersuchung des alten Ratsels berechtigt und sinnvoll erscheint. Wir beginnen deshalb zunachst mit einer Analyse der Perikope Mk. xi. 12-25. 11 In der Erzahlung iiber den zweiten und dritten Tag des jerusalemischen Aufenthaltes Jesu unmittelbar vor der Passion heben sich klar die hier zur Diskussion stehenden Teile ab: xi. 12-14, die Verfluchung des Feigenbaumes; xi. 15-19, die Tempelreinigung; xi. 20-1, das Gesprach iiber den verdorrten Feigenbaum; xi. 22-5, die Rede iiber Glaube, Gebet und Vergebung. Es diirfte heute unbestritten sein, daB die Perikope iiber die Tempelreinigung von Mk. bewuBt hier eingeschoben ist. 3 Ebensowenig gehoren xi. 22-5 urspriinglich hierher; es handelt sich um isoliert umlaufende Herrenworte, die Mk. redaktionell verkniipft 4 und hier einordnet. 5
